Spain has 46,157,822 inhabitants according to 2008 census. The population of Spain by a large numbers of immigrants, mostly from Latin America (39%), Eastern Europe (16%), North Africa (15%) and Sub-Saharan Africa (4%).
Languages
Spanish (español or castellano, Castilian) is spoken all over the country and so is the only language with official status nationwide (74%). Other languages have been declared co-official, along with Spanish, in (some of) their constituent communities where they are spoken: Basque (2%) in the Basque Country and Navarre, Catalan (17%) in Catalonia and the Balearic Islands; Valencian, a distinct variant of Catalan, is official in the Valencian Community; Galician (7%) in Galicia.
